Membership and Volunteer Coordinator

We are looking for an enthusiastic and organised volunteer to help support our small charity through an exciting period of development and growth in order to organize events and to increase the charity’s profile generally in the North East. We are currently working towards the launch of a new campaign which will include the recruitment of volunteers for the charity and the creation of a membership database to increase the reach of the charity’s work.

The role

Summary of role

As a small board we have previously relied upon grant funding. Now, we need to improve our community fundraising and to develop a fundraising strategy. We are a varied Board of 7 Trustees but we have identified a skills gap with regards to fundraising and marketing strategy. This is new territory for the charity and we were looking for a volunteer to work with the board to develop this area and to help to secure the future viability of the charity so we can help vulnerable people in the North East.

Personal description

Do you have an interest in improving the lives of people living with neurological conditions?
  • Experience of fundraising, no matter how small and a willingness to develop your own skills for the benefit of the charity
  • Initiative and creativity to implement fundraising events whilst being alert to potential risks
  • Motivated, pro-active and have a willingness to be hands on with projects and to take the lead in developing and implementing fundraising strategy
  • Enjoy working independently and as part of a team to achieve results
  • A ‘can-do’ attitude and understand the core aims of the charity
  • An understanding of the challenges which face small charities
  • Assist in planning, developing and implementing both short and long term deliverable community fundraising strategies to ensure the financial viability of the charity
  • To identify fundraising opportunities and projects and to identify, manage and advise the Board on risks associated with them
  • Build relationships and rapport with potential partners including individuals, corporate and trusts and foundations
  • To support the Trustees in achieving grant funding from trusts and foundations by researching, prioritizing and applying for available funding
  • To advise on corporate fundraising approach, and to support the organisation in developing a strategy to build corporate relationships
  • To promote partnership working and support the NNA to develop symbiotic relationships with other neurological charities within our delivery area
  • To provide monthly updates, either written or verbal, to the Board
  • To compile and maintain donor / volunteer database (optional)

Impact this opportunity will have

This is an opportunity to help a local charity to raise awareness and vital funds in order to improve the lives of individuals living with neurological conditions. You will be working towards the launch of a new campaign which is intended to recruit volunteer ambassadors to the charity, thus widening the reach of the charity and the individuals whom we are able to help.

The poor management of neurological conditions is a prevalent problem in the North East. The most recent local data estimates that nearly 15,000 admissions to hospital in the North East were primarily due to one of the selected long term neurological condition (LTNC). The report also estimates that over 53,000 finished consultant episodes had LTNC coded as co-morbidity or main diagnosis. The scale of the problem is huge. This is an opportunity to get involved in raising standards across the board so that individuals living with neurological conditions are empowered to play an active role in their support plans including how their condition is managed (self-management), the care / support received and meaningful contribution to their community through activities, volunteering and employment – providing opportunity to fulfil life goals and live as independently as possible.
